Abstract
The present invention describes novel macromonomers containing polyisobutene groups and homo- or copolymers thereof.

A compound (A) of the formula (I)
- in which
- R1 to R5 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, C1-C20-alkyloxy and C8-C3500-polyisobutyl and C8-C3500-polyisobutenyl,
- R is an alkylene group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms,
- R6 is hydrogen or methyl,
- R7 is hydrogen, methyl or COORS,
- R8 is hydrogen or C1-C20-alkyl and
- n is a positive integer from 1 to 50,
- with the proviso that
- at least one of the R1 to R5 radicals is a C8-C3500-polyisobutyl or C8-C3500-polyisobutenyl, and is derived from polyisobutene having a content of terminal double bonds of at least 50 mol %, based on the total number of polyisobutene macromolecules.

A polymer comprising, in polymerized form,
- at least one compound (A) of the formula (I)
- in which
- R1 to R5 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, C1-C20-alkyloxy and C8-C3500-polyisobutyl and C8-C3500-polyisobutenyl,
- R is an alkylene group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms,
- R6 is hydrogen or methyl,
- R7 is hydrogen, methyl or COOR8,
- R8 is hydrogen or C1-C20-alkyl and
- n is a positive integer from 1 to 50,
- with the proviso that
- at least one of the R1 to R5 radicals is a C8-C3500-polyisobutyl or C8-C3500-polyisobutenyl, and is derived from polyisobutene having a content of terminal double bonds of at least 50 mol %, based on the total number of polyisobutene macromolecules,
- and optionally at least one monomer (B) selected from the group consisting of
- (B1) (meth)acrylates other than (A),
- (B2) fumaric and maleic acid derivatives other than (A),
- (B3) alkyl vinyl ethers
- (B4) styrene and α-methylstyrene
- (B5) acrylonitrile
- (B6) vinyl alkanoates and
- (B7) (meth)acrylamides.
