A method of increasing the cardiomyocyte survival, cardiomyocyte proliferation, cardiomyocyte growth, or cardiomyocyte differentiation in a mammal in need thereof, said method comprising administering a NRG-2 polypeptide to said mammal in an amount effective for increasing said cardiomyocyte survival, cardiomyocyte proliferation, cardiomyocyte growth, or cardiomyocyte differentiation.
