Abstract
Methods and systems for suppressing shadowgraphic flow projection artifacts in OCT angiography images of a sample are disclosed. In one example approach, normalized OCT angiography data is analyzed at the level of individual A-scans to classify signals as either flow or projection artifact. This classification information is then used to suppress projection artifacts in the three dimensional OCT angiography dataset.
Claims23
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving a structural optical coherence tomography (OCT) dataset;
- obtaining an OCT angiography dataset from the structural OCT dataset;
- normalizing voxels of the OCT angiography dataset based on respective intensities of corresponding voxels of the structural OCT dataset;
- classifying the normalized voxels as flow or projection artifact;
- generating a projection-suppressed OCT angiography dataset based on the classification;
- and
- generating an OCT image based on the projection-suppressed OCT angiography dataset.
A system comprising:
- an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system to acquire a structural OCT dataset of a sample;
- a logic subsystem;
- and
- a data holding subsystem comprising machine-readable instructions stored thereon that are executable by the logic subsystem to:
- generate an OCT angiography dataset from the structural OCT dataset;
- normalize voxels of the OCT angiography dataset based on respective intensities of corresponding voxels of the structural OCT dataset;
- classify the normalized voxels as flow or projection artifact;
- generate a projection-suppressed OCT angiography dataset based on the classification;
- and
- generate a flow image based on the projection-suppressed OCT angiography dataset.
A method for suppressing shadowgraphic flow projection artifacts in an optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography dataset, comprising:
- obtaining an OCT angiography dataset including flow values associated with respective voxels that are arranged in a plurality of A-scans oriented in a depth direction;
- determining normalized flow values associated with the respective voxels based on an intensity of a corresponding voxel in an associated OCT structural dataset;
- identifying, within individual A-scans of the plurality of A-scans, a first voxel of the respective A-scan that is the voxel of the A-scan with the greatest depth for which all shallower voxels of the A-scan have normalized flow values that are less than a normalized flow value of the first voxel;
- and
- modifying one or more of the flow values associated with voxels of the respective A-scan that are deeper than the first voxel to obtain a projection-suppressed OCT angiography dataset.
