A method of feeding a farmed aquatic animal, an ornamental vertebrate, or an ornamental invertebrate, comprising:
- preparing a feed comprising biological material derived from eggs and/or nauplii of stage I of a barnacle with or without further additives;
- and
- adding the feed to a unit comprising the farmed aquatic animal, the ornamental vertebrate, or the ornamental invertebrate.
A method for supplementing the diet of an animal or human, comprising:
- administering a feed supplement, a health product, and/or a functional feed comprising eggs and/or nauplii of stage I of a barnacle to the animal or the human for consumption.
A method for preserving eggs and/or nauplii of stage I of a barnacle for use as a feed, comprising:
- treating the eggs and/or nauplii of stage 1 of a barnacle by one or several of the methods selected from cooling below the animals freezing point, heat treatment, drying, freeze drying, storage in a modified atmosphere, and addition of preserving chemicals.
A method for producing a feed for early life stages of an aquatic animal comprising:
- harvesting of eggs and nauplii of stage I by releasing them from adult barnacle using mechanical forces or washing;
- separating eggs and nauplii of stage I from the adult barnacles by a suitable separating method;
- optionally incubating eggs a defined period of time in sea water to hatch/release nauplii of stage I which are still situated in the egg membrane to free swimming nauplii of stage I;
- optionally incubating nauplii of stage I for a defined period of time in sea water to increase amount of nauplii of stage II;
- and
- feeding the obtained nauplii stages as live feed or preserving them for later use.
