A gas barrier laminate includes a substrate and a barrier layer formed on at least one of faces of the substrate. The barrier layer includes composite oxide including silicon and alkaline-earth metal.

A gas barrier laminate comprising:
- a substrate;
- and
- a barrier layer formed between an oxide semiconductor layer and the substrate, the barrier layer including composite oxide including silicon and alkaline-earth metal.
