A tree climbing system comprising:

• a treestand including a seat, a first tree engaging structure, and a platform coupled to said first tree engaging structure and made of a strengthened material defining a web of structural supports defining openings between a top surface of said platform and a bottom surface of said platform;
• and
• at least one climbing stick including a frame tube having a first end and a second end and extending along an axis, a first step mounted to said first end of said frame tube, a second step mounted to said second end of said frame tube, a first tree engaging structure fixed to said first end of said frame tube, a second tree engaging structure fixed to said second end of said frame tube, and wherein said frame tube includes a plurality of weight reduction apertures formed therethrough.
