Management of group common downlink control channels in a wireless communications system

A device, comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
• transmitting an indication that information contained in a group common physical downlink control channel is utilized by the device;
• receiving an assignment of a group identifier in response to the transmitting;
• and
• receiving the information in the group common physical downlink control channel indicated for the group identifier, wherein the group identifier categorizes mobile devices in a wireless network, comprising the device, that employ the information contained in the group common physical downlink control channel for communication within the wireless network.

A machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:

• assigning a first mobile device to a group identifier based on a first determination that the first mobile device decodes a group common physical downlink control channel for wireless communications;
• assigning a second mobile device to the group identifier based on a second determination that the second mobile device decodes the group common physical downlink control channel for wireless communications;
• and
• facilitating transmitting data via the group common physical downlink control channel to the first mobile device and the second mobile device based on the group identifier.
