Procedures to support network slicing in a wireless communication system

An apparatus comprising:

• a network interface in a primary network slice for communicating over a mobile communication network;
• and
• a processor in the primary network slice that:
• receives a mobility management request from the mobile unit, wherein the mobile unit is simultaneously served by the primary network slice and a secondary network slice of the mobile communication network;
• forwards the mobility management request to the secondary network slice;
• and
• sends a single mobility management response to the mobile unit, wherein the single mobility management response includes a first response from the primary network slice and a second response from the secondary network slice. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the processor further:
• receives the second response from the secondary network slice;
• generates the first response based on the includes a first response from the primary network slice and a second response from the secondary network slice request.

A method comprising:

• receiving a mobility management request at a primary network slice of a mobile communication network from a mobile unit, wherein the mobile unit is simultaneously served by the primary network slice and a secondary network slice of the mobile communication network;
• forwarding the mobility management request to the secondary network slice;
• and
• transmitting a single mobility management response to the mobile unit, wherein the single mobility management response includes a first response from the primary network slice and a second response from the secondary network slice.
