Loudspeaker enhancement

A method, comprising:

• producing, with a speaker, audio in response to an amplified analog input signal received at a speaker input, wherein the audio produced by the speaker is based on a combination of the amplified analog input signal and impedance characteristics of the speaker over an audible frequency range as well as an electrical current passing through the speaker over time;
• amplifying an analog audio input signal to provide the amplified analog audio input signal to the speaker input;
• sensing the electrical current passing through the speaker and providing a current sensor signal indicative thereof;
• and
• applying a transfer function to the current sensor signal to produce a compensation signal, wherein the transfer function is configured to match at least one of a resistance component and an inductance component of the impedance characteristics of the speaker, wherein the compensation signal is provided to the amplifying as feedback such that the amplifying, sensing, and applying are performed in combination with the speaker to provide a closed loop system in which the amplifying injects the compensation signal into the analog audio input signal to provide the amplified analog input signal.

A system, comprising:

• a speaker that produces audio in response to an amplified analog input signal received at a speaker input, wherein the audio produced by the speaker is based on a combination of the amplified analog input signal and impedance characteristics of the speaker over an audible frequency range as well as a current passing through the speaker over time;
• a scaler that attenuates an analog audio input signal and provides the attenuated analog audio input signal;
• an amplifier that receives the attenuated analog audio input signal and provides the amplified analog audio input signal to the speaker input;
• a current sensor that senses the current passing through the speaker and provides a current sensor signal indicative thereof;
• and
• a compensator circuit that applies a transfer function to the current sensor signal to produce a compensation signal wherein the transfer function is configured to match at least one of a resistance component and an inductance component of the impedance characteristics of the speaker, wherein the compensator circuit provides the compensation signal to the amplifier as feedback such that the amplifier, current sensor, and compensator circuit are arranged in combination with the speaker to provide a closed loop system in which the amplifier combines the compensation signal with the attenuated analog audio input signal to provide the amplified analog input signal.
