Systems and methods for browsing content stored in the viewer's video library

A method comprising:

• determining that a reference event has occurred prior to displaying any of a plurality of media assets available on a streaming source;
• responsive to the determination, determining a subset of the plurality of media assets, the subset comprising media assets that a user is allowed to access;
• receiving, at user equipment, an input from the user requesting display of a media asset of the subset of media assets;
• responsive to the input from the user:
• receiving the media asset from the streaming source;
• measuring, at user equipment, an amount of time that has elapsed from a time at which the reference event occurred until the input from the user requesting display of the media asset is received;
• advancing a playback position of the media asset to a play position that is offset from a beginning of the media asset by the measured amount of time;
• and
• causing the media asset to be presented on the user equipment starting from the play position.

A system comprising:

• a storage device;
• and
• control circuitry configured to:
• determine that a reference event has occurred prior to displaying any of a plurality of media assets available on a streaming source;
• responsive to the determination, determine a subset of the plurality of media assets, the subset comprising media assets that a user is allowed to access;
• receive, at user equipment, an input from the user requesting display of a media asset of the subset of media assets;
• responsive to the input from the user:
• receive the media asset from the streaming source and store on the storage device;
• measure, at user equipment, an amount of time that has elapsed from a time at which the reference event occurred until the input from the user requesting display of the media asset is received;
• advance a playback position of the media asset to a play position that is offset from a beginning of the media asset by the measured amount of time;
• and
• cause the media asset to be presented on the user equipment starting from the play position.
