Systems and methods to enable network coordinated mac randomization for wi-fi privacy

A computer device for a wireless station device, the computer device coupled to storage and processing circuitry configured to:

• determine a random medium access control (MAC) address corresponding to the wireless station device;
• determine a first frame comprising an indication of the random MAC address;
• cause to send the first frame;
• and
• identify an authentication indication received from an access point based at least in part on the random MAC address.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions which when executed by one or more processors result in performing operations comprising:

• identifying, at an access point, a first frame received from a wireless station device;
• determining medium access control (MAC) address of the first frame, wherein the MAC address is randomly generated by the wireless station device before authentication with the access point;
• authenticating the wireless station device;
• and
• causing to send an authentication indication to the wireless station device.

A method, comprising:

• determining, by processing circuitry of a wireless station device, a random medium access control (MAC) address corresponding to the wireless station device;
• determining, by the processing circuitry, a first frame comprising an indication of the random MAC address;
• causing to send, by the processing circuitry, the first frame;
• and
• identifying, by the processing circuitry, an authentication indication received from an access point based at least in part on the random MAC address.

An apparatus comprising:

• means for determining a random medium access control (MAC) address corresponding to a wireless station device, wherein the apparatus is for the wireless station device;
• means for determining a first frame comprising an indication of the random MAC address;
• means for causing to send the first frame;
• and
• means for identifying an authentication indication received from an access point based at least in part on the random MAC address.
