Apparatus and method for effective ptrs operation and indication in wireless communication system

A method for transmitting a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS) by a base station, the method comprising:

• transmitting, to a terminal on higher layer signaling, information about the PTRS;
• transmitting, to the terminal on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), information that indicates information used for transmitting the PTRS from among the information about the PTRS;
• and
• transmitting, to the terminal, the PTRS based on the information used for transmitting the PTRS.

A terminal for receiving a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS), the terminal comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• control the transceiver to receive, from a base station on higher layer signaling, information about the PTRS,
• control the transceiver to receive, from the base station on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), information that indicates information used for receiving the PTRS from among the information about the PTRS, and
• control the transceiver to receive, from the base station, the PTRS based on the information used for receiving the PTRS.

A base station for transmitting a phase tracking reference signal (PTRS), the base station comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• control the transceiver to transmit, to a terminal on higher layer signaling, information about the PTRS,
• control the transceiver to transmit, to the terminal on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), information that indicates information used for transmitting the PTRS from among the information about the PTRS;
• and
• control the transceiver to transmit, to the terminal, the PTRS based on the information used for transmitting the PTRS.
