Transactional memory operation success rate

A computer system for handling cache prefetch requests, the system comprising:

• a cache memory;
• and
• a processor system communicatively coupled to the cache memory;
• the processor system configured to:
• receive a request to prefetch data from a main memory to a cache;
• and
• based on a determination that the prefetch request is a speculative prefetch request, determine if the cache is being used for transactional memory;
• based on a determination that the cache is not being used for transactional memory, process the prefetch request;
• based on a determination that the cache is being used for transactional memory, and a determination if the prefetch request can be processed without affecting transactional memory, process the prefetch request;
• and
• based on a determination that the cache is being used for transactional memory, and a determination if the prefetch request can be processed without affecting transactional memory, rejecting the prefetch request.

A design structure tangibly embodied in a machine-readable storage medium for designing, manufacturing, or testing an integrated circuit, the design structure comprising:

• a cache memory;
• and
• a processor core coupled to the cache memory, the processor core configured to:
• receive a request to prefetch data from a main memory to a cache;
• and
• based on a determination that the prefetch request is a speculative prefetch request, determine if the cache is being used for transactional memory;
• based on a determination that the cache is not being used for transactional memory, process the prefetch request;
• based on a determination that the cache is being used for transactional memory, and a determination if the prefetch request can be processed without affecting transactional memory, process the prefetch request;
• and
• based on a determination that the cache is being used for transactional memory, and a determination if the prefetch request can be processed without affecting transactional memory, rejecting the prefetch request.
