Abstract
Merchants convert consumer account data to a common tokenized format by requesting wallet accounts for consumers not currently enrolled at a wallet platform. The tokenized card numbers replace merchant-stored personal account numbers (PAN) and allow merchants to use a common communication format for processing all transactions. When a consumer creates a new wallet account, existing ‘shadow’ accounts are added to the new wallet account.

A system comprising:
- a network interface that sends and receives information;
- a processor and memory that execute instructions causing the system to:
- receive a consumer personal account number via a network interface, receiving the consumer personal account number from other than a consumer associated with the personal account number;
- obtain a tokenized card number corresponding to the consumer personal account number;
- create a guest wallet account on behalf of the consumer;
- update the guest wallet account to include the tokenized card number;
- build a payload including the tokenized card number;
- and
- send the payload to a merchant for use by the merchant in replacing stored consumer personal account information with data from the payload.

- receiving, at a wallet platform, a consumer personal account number;
- obtaining, at the wallet platform, a tokenized card number corresponding to the consumer personal account number;
- creating, at the wallet platform, a wallet account on behalf of a consumer associated with the consumer personal account number, the wallet account including the tokenized card number;
- building a payload including the tokenized card number;
- and
- sending the payload including the tokenized card number to a merchant to allow the merchant to replace any copy of the consumer personal account number at the merchant.

- sending to a merchant associated with the consumer, via an API call of the wallet platform, a payload containing guest wallet account information corresponding to the guest wallet account created on behalf of the consumer.
