Reducing stable data eviction with synthetic baseline snapshot and eviction state refresh

One or more non-transitory machine-readable media comprising program code to reduce stable snapshot data eviction, the program code to:

• based at least partly on receipt of a first incremental snapshot at a device between a data source and cloud storage, create a synthetic baseline snapshot with the first incremental snapshot;
• modify eviction state data of a set of cached data blocks that are associated with a second snapshot and that remains valid for the first incremental snapshot, wherein the second incremental snapshot precedes the first incremental snapshot in time;
• and
• associate a local identifier of the first incremental snapshot with the set of data blocks.

An apparatus comprising:

• a processor;
• a network interface;
• and
• a machine-readable medium having program code executable by the processor to cause the apparatus to,
• create a synthetic baseline snapshot with a first incremental snapshot, based at least partly on receipt of the first incremental snapshot via the network interface from a data source;
• modify eviction state data of a set of cached data blocks that are associated with a second snapshot and that remains valid for the first incremental snapshot, wherein the second incremental snapshot precedes the first incremental snapshot in time;
• and
• associate a local identifier of the first incremental snapshot with the set of data blocks, wherein the local identifier is different than an identifier of the first incremental snapshot used by the data source.
