Multifunctional saw apparatus and method

An apparatus comprising:

• a base including an arm selectively movable with respect to the base, the arm being selectively rotatable about a first arm axis at a first end of the arm, towards and away from a substantially planar top surface of the base;
• a base plate pivotably engaged with the arm, the base plate being pivotable about a second arm axis at a second end of the arm between a first position and a second position;
• and
• a circular saw configured to be detachably coupled to the base plate, the circular saw being movable with the base plate when coupled to the base plate and having a saw blade positioned beyond the second end of the arm, wherein the apparatus includes:
• a miter saw mode with the circular saw coupled to the base plate in the first position and the arm being selectively rotatable about the first arm axis;
• a radial arm saw mode with the circular saw coupled to the base plate in the second position and the arm being constrained from rotating about the first arm axis, the arm being substantially stationary with respect to the base;
• and
• a circular saw mode with the circular saw detached from the base plate.

A method of making a multifunctional saw apparatus, the method comprising:

• movably attaching an arm to a base, the arm being selectively rotatable about a first arm axis at a first end of the arm, towards and away from a substantially planar top surface of the base;
• pivotably engaging a circular saw with a second end of the arm, the circular saw being pivotable with respect to the second end of the arm between a first position and a second position, wherein the circular saw has a saw blade positioned beyond the second end of the arm;
• the circular saw being movable with respect to the arm to operate the multifunctional saw apparatus in multiple different modes including:
• a miter saw mode with the circular saw coupled to the arm in the first position and the arm being selectively rotatable about the first arm axis;
• a table saw mode with the circular saw coupled to arm in the second position and the arm being constrained from rotating about the first arm axis, the arm being substantially stationary with respect to the base;
• and
• a radial arm saw mode wherein the saw is moveable along the arm.
