Access-Point Controller Discovery via an Intermediary

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for use in conjunction with a configuration device, the computer-readable storage medium storing a program module to provide information, wherein, when executed by the configuration device, the program module causes the configuration device to perform one or more operations comprising:

• receiving, at an interface circuit in the configuration device, a predefined mapping associated with an electronic device, wherein the predefined mapping is from an identifier of an access point to a unique network address of a controller associated with the access point, and wherein the electronic device is associated with an entity;
• receiving, at the interface circuit, a controller query associated with the access point that requests the information specifying the unique network address of the controller associated with the access point, wherein the controller query includes the identifier;
• determining the unique network address of the controller based on the predefined mapping and the identifier;
• and
• providing, from the interface circuit, the information for the access point.

A method for providing information, comprising:

• by a configuration device:
• receiving, at an interface circuit in the configuration device, a predefined mapping associated with an electronic device, wherein the predefined mapping is from an identifier of an access point to a unique network address of a controller associated with the access point, and wherein the electronic device is associated with an entity;
• receiving, at the interface circuit, a controller query associated with the access point that requests the information specifying the unique network address of the controller associated with the access point, wherein the controller query includes the identifier;
• determining the unique network address of the controller based on the predefined mapping and the identifier;
• and
• providing, from the interface circuit, the information for the access point.
