Hue-based color naming for an image

A system comprising:

• a data store configured to at least store computer-executable instructions;
• and
• a hardware processor in communication with the data store, the hardware processor configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:
• obtain one or more colors corresponding to a representative hue, wherein the representative hue is derived from an item in a color image;
• determine a first color name that corresponds to a first color of the obtained one or more colors based at least in part on metadata associated with the first color name and the first color;
• and
• store the first color name as metadata associated with the item in the color image.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing computer executable instructions that when executed by a processor perform operations comprising:

• obtaining one or more colors corresponding to a representative hue, wherein the representative hue is derived from an item in a color image;
• determining a first color name that corresponds to a first color of the obtained one or more colors based at least in part on metadata associated with the first color name and the first color;
• and
• storing the first color name as metadata associated with the item in the color image.
