Pad and spring assembly for a disc brake caliper

An assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, wherein, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:

• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one lateral projection which extends in a direction substantially coplanar to the plate and is placed at an end of the support plate, and wherein
• said at least one lateral projection is adapted to be accommodated in a pocket obtained in the body of the caliper;
• said assembly further comprising at least one spring, wherein said spring is connected to said lateral projection of said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be accommodated in a seat formed in the body of the caliper at said pocket, said seat being delimited by at least one seat wall, characterized in that
• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein
• each of said springs is adapted to be inserted in a respective seat to be fastened onto said seat wall to bias said pad in axial direction.

A caliper, wherein

• said caliper comprises a caliper body, and wherein
• said caliper body comprises an inner side or support side, and an outer side, or reaction side;
• said outer side comprises an inner surface able to face a pad and the brake disc and an opposite outer surface;
• and wherein said outer side comprises at least one pocket adapted to accommodate at least one lateral projection of a pad, and
• at least one seat adapted to accommodate at least one spring,
• at least one seat wall adapted to cooperate with said spring, and wherein
• said outer side comprises an assembly;
• said assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:
• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one lateral projection which extends in a direction substantially coplanar to the plate and is placed at an end of the support plate, and wherein
• said at least one lateral projection is adapted to be accommodated in a pocket obtained in the body of the caliper;
• said assembly further comprising at least one spring, wherein said spring is connected to said lateral projection of said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be accommodated in a seat formed in the body of the caliper at said pocket, said seat being delimited by at least one seat wall,
• wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein
• each of said springs is adapted to be inserted in a respective seat to be fastened onto said seat wall to bias said pad in axial direction;
• said assembly is adapted to face one side of an associable brake disc;
• and wherein said inner side comprises a second pad opposite to the first pad and adapted to face the opposite side of an associable brake disc.

• said assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:
• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one lateral projection which extends in a direction substantially coplanar to the plate and is placed at an end of the support plate, and wherein
• said at least one lateral projection is adapted to be accommodated in a pocket obtained in the body of the caliper;
• said assembly further comprising at least one spring, wherein said spring is connected to said lateral projection of said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be accommodated in a seat formed in the body of the caliper at said pocket, said seat being delimited by at least one seat wall,

• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein

• said assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:
• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein

• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein

• said spring being adapted to be at least partially interposed between said lateral projection of the plate and said pocket, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to cooperate with walls of said pocket to bias said pad with respect to the caliper in the radial direction,

• said spring is adapted to be inserted in said seat to be fastened in an undercut manner against said undercut surface to bias said pad in the axial direction;
• said assembly is adapted to face one side of an associable brake disc;
• and wherein said inner side comprises a second pad opposite to the first pad and adapted to face the opposite side of an associable brake disc.

A disc brake comprising a caliper

• said caliper comprises a caliper body, and wherein
• said caliper body comprises an inner side or support side, and an outer side, or reaction side;
• said outer side comprises an inner surface able to face a pad and the brake disc and an opposite outer surface;
• and wherein said outer side comprises at least one pocket adapted to accommodate at least one pad, and
• at least one seat adapted to accommodate at least one spring,
• at least one undercut surface with respect to said inner surface adapted to cooperate with a second hooked end of said spring, and wherein
• said outer side comprises an assembly;
• said assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:
• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one lateral projection which extends in a direction substantially coplanar to the plate and is placed at an end of the support plate, and wherein
• said at least one lateral projection is adapted to be accommodated in a pocket obtained in the body of the caliper;
• said assembly further comprising at least one spring, wherein said spring is connected to said lateral projection of said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be accommodated in a seat formed in the body of the caliper at said pocket, said seat being delimited by at least one seat wall,
• wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein

• said spring being adapted to cooperate with walls of said pocket to bias said pad with respect to the caliper in the radial direction,

• said spring is adapted to be inserted in said seat to be fastened in an undercut manner against said undercut surface to bias said pad in the axial direction;
• said assembly being adapted to face one side of an associable brake disc;
• and wherein said inner side comprises a second pad opposite to the first pad and adapted to face the opposite side of an associable brake disc.

A method for installing an assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, comprising the steps of:

• providing an assembly;
• said assembly for a caliper of a disc brake, when said caliper is arranged astride a disc of a disc brake having a defined rotation axis, said assembly defines an axial direction parallel to said rotation axis, a radial direction orthogonal to said axial direction and a tangential or circumferential direction orthogonal to both the axial direction and the radial direction, said assembly comprising:
• a first pad comprising a friction material, defining a friction surface, and a support plate which supports said friction material and is adapted to release the braking action onto the caliper of the disc brake, wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one lateral projection which extends in a direction substantially coplanar to the plate and is placed at an end of the support plate, and wherein
• said at least one lateral projection is adapted to be accommodated in a pocket obtained in the body of the caliper;
• said assembly further comprising at least one spring, wherein said spring is connected to said lateral projection of said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be accommodated in a seat formed in the body of the caliper at said pocket, said seat being delimited by at least one seat wall,
• wherein
• said support plate comprises at least one pair of opposite lateral projections which extend in direction substantially coplanar with the plate and are placed at opposite ends of the support plate, and said assembly comprises at least one pair of springs, wherein each spring is connected to each lateral projection of said plate, and wherein
• each of said springs is adapted to be inserted in a respective seat to be fastened onto said seat wall to bias said pad in axial direction;
• and
• said seat being adapted to put the surface of the body of the caliper facing the disc into communication with an opposite surface arranged undercut with respect to said support plate, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to be at least partially interposed between said lateral projection of the plate and said pocket, and wherein
• said spring being adapted to cooperate with walls of said pocket to bias said pad with respect to the caliper in the radial direction,
• and wherein
• said spring is adapted to be inserted in said seat to be fastened in an undercut manner against said undercut surface to bias said pad in the axial direction;
• coupling the spring with the support plate of the pad;
• inserting the protuberance of said pad in the guide obtained in the pocket of the caliper body;
• moving the pad with respect to the guide so as to insert said spring into the seat obtained in the outer side of the caliper body;
• moving the pad in axial direction so as to snap-fasten said spring against the undercut opposite surface obtained in the outer side of the caliper body.
