Abstract
Bridge tape comprised of thermally foamable composition, useful for applying coating material through holes in the tape to a substrate beneath the tape, after which the holes can be sealed by heating to cause the foamable composition to foam and expand the foam to seal the holes.

- A bridge tape comprised of a foamable composition on a backing material with an adhesive coating.

- The bridge tape of claim 1, in the form of a die-cut patch.

- The bridge tape patch of claim 2, having a plurality of holes passing through said die-cut patch.

- The bridge tape of claim 1, wherein the backing material is a cloth tape, having an adhesive on the side opposite the side having the foamable composition.

- The bridge tape of claim 4, having an adhesive coating or a two sided adhesive tape between the cloth tape and the foamable composition.

- The bridge tape of claim 4, having a release liner covering the adhesive on the side opposite the side having the foamable composition.

- A method for applying a liquid coating material to a cavity inside an opening in a substrate, and then sealing the opening, which comprises covering the opening with the bridge tape patch of claim 3, applying said liquid coating material to the patch and through the holes in the patch and into the cavity, and heating the patch to cause the foamable composition to foam and expand the foam to seal the holes passing through the patch.
