Abstract

This disclosure is directed to a smart playable flying disc and methods for determining associated motion parameters. The playable device may capture and transmit sensor data including motion data to a computing device. Motion parameters can be determined based on the sensor data. For example, an initial velocity of the playable device can be determined based on a throw duration and a maximum acceleration. Machine learning algorithms can determine updated parameters based on learned parameters. The playable device can include rapid charging circuits to receive power from a remote charger. Sensor data may also be interpreted by the computing device as gestures for interacting with the computing device or for presentation during gameplay. The computing device can capture image data of the playable device and identify the playable device and annotate image data based on the sensor data from the playable device.

Dependent claims

A smart playable device comprising:

a disc-shaped body configured to produce lift when moving through air while spinning;
an electronics enclosure coupled to the disc-shaped body, the electronics enclosure including a cavity or forming the cavity between at least a portion of the electronics enclosure and at least a portion of the disc-shaped body;
one or more electrical connectors mounted on an external surface of the smart playable device, the one or more electrical connectors including a first input contact point and a second input contact point spaced a distance from the first input contact point;
and
an electronics assembly fixed within at least a portion of the cavity, the electronics assembly including at least a printed circuit board electrically coupled to the one or more electrical connectors, the electronics assembly including at least:
a capacitor mounted to the printed circuit board configured to receive electrical power via the one or more electrical connectors and providing power to one or more components mounted on the printed circuit board;
one or more processors mounted on the printed circuit board;
a first accelerometer mounted on the printed circuit board;
a second accelerometer mounted on the printed circuit board;
a magnetometer mounted on the printed circuit board;
a wireless module mounted on the printed circuit board;
and
an antenna coupled to the wireless module,
wherein the one or more processors are configured to:
receive sensor data from at least one of the first accelerometer, the second accelerometer, or the magnetometer;
and
cause the wireless module to transmit an indication of the sensor data to a computing device in wireless communication with the wireless module during gameplay associated with the smart playable device.

one or more processors;
one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions executable by the one or more processors, wherein the instructions program the one or more processors to perform actions comprising:
receiving sensor data transmitted by a smart playable device during gameplay associated with the smart playable device, wherein the sensor data corresponds to motion of the smart playable device;
determining, based at least in part on the sensor data, an initial velocity associated with the smart playable device;
providing the initial velocity as an input to a machine learning algorithm to determine an updated velocity associated with the motion of the smart playable device;
and
presenting a notification of the updated velocity on a display of the device.
