Abstract
The invention provides a fermented Pennisetum extract, which has an advantageous effect in treating and preventing a cancer without toxicity to normal cells. The invention also provides a process of preparing the fermented Pennisetum extract and the application of the fermented Pennisetum extract in the treatment or prevention of a cancer.

A fermented Pennisetum extract, comprising a compound ZG5236 having a chromatograph having at least a peak at retention times of 17.18 to 17.98 minutes assayed by HPLC.
A process for preparing a fermented Pennisetum extract, comprising the following steps:
- (a) culturing Pennisetum solution with Aspergillus niger for a biotransformation;
- (b) collecting the resulting cultured solution and then extracting the solution with an organic solvent to obtain an extract;
- and (c) analyzing the extract by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) at 254 nm and 330 nm.
