Abstract
Cables are constructed with extruded discontinuities in the cable jacket that allow the jacket to be torn to provide access to the cable core. The discontinuities can be longitudinally extending strips of material in the cable jacket.
Claims2
A coextrusion apparatus for manufacturing a cable jacket, the apparatus comprising:
- a first input port for receiving a first extrudate material;
- a second input port for receiving a second extrudate material;
- a cavity for housing an extrusion tip that in part defines a shape of an extrusion cone;
- and
- a ring for diverting an extrudate flow of the first extrudate material to create a trough in the extrudate flow into which the second extrudate material flows.
