Foil stamping apparatus

A method for coating a part comprising an asymmetrical edge, the method comprising:

• providing a film dispenser, film retriever, a mandrel, a film, and a part holder;
• providing a part with an asymmetrical edge, that is held in place by the part holder, wherein the part has a first angled edge and angle β and a second angled edge and angle α wherein α is not equal to β;
• placing the film over the asymmetrical edge of the part;
• rolling the part over the mandrel with the film sandwiched therebetween;
• wherein as the part rotates against the mandrel, one or both of the mandrel and the part holder move in an angular relationship to one another as the asymmetrical edge of the part changes angle;
• wherein the film dispenser and the film retriever move co-operatively in at least three dimensions with respect to the part holder and part to align the film with a changing angle of the asymmetrical edge of the part.
