Context-based protocol stack privacy

A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the WTRU comprising:

• a receiver configured to receive information associated with a plurality of neighboring networks;
• a processor configured to determine privacy profile options based on a context of each of the plurality of neighboring networks, wherein each context is based on the received information and a location associated with each of the plurality of neighboring networks;
• the processor further configured to select a privacy profile based on a policy, wherein the privacy profile includes privacy and security settings for each layer of a protocol stack;
• and
• a transmitter configured to transmit instructions to each layer of the protocol stack with the privacy and security settings based on the selected privacy profile.

A method for use in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

• receiving information about a plurality of networks;
• selecting a network from the plurality of networks;
• adjusting a privacy profile based on a context of the selected network, wherein the context is based on the received information and a location associated with the selected network and wherein the privacy profile includes privacy and security settings for each layer of a protocol stack;
• and
• instructing each layer of the protocol stack with the privacy and security settings based on the adjusted privacy profile.
