Abstract
A modified velocity model different from an initial velocity model is determined for migrating a vintage of 4D seismic data. The modified velocity model minimizes differences between a reference vintage migrated using the initial velocity model and the vintage migrated using the modified velocity model.
Claims20
A method for updating a velocity model used for migrating a vintage of 4D seismic data, the method comprising:
- receiving a first data set and a second data set that are vintages of the 4D seismic data;
- migrating the first data set using an initial velocity model to obtain a first migrated data set;
- and
- determining a modified velocity model that minimizes an objective function measuring differences between the first migrated data set and the second data set migrated using the modified velocity model.
A seismic data processing apparatus, comprising:
- an interface configured to receive a first data set and a second data set that are vintages of 4D seismic data;
- and
- a data processing unit connected to the interface and including at least one processor, the data processing unit being configured
- to migrate the first data set using an initial velocity model to obtain a first migrated data set, and
- to determine a modified velocity model that minimizes an objective function measuring differences between the first migrated data set and the second data set migrated using the modified velocity model.
A computer readable recording medium storing executable codes which, when executed by a computer, make the computer perform a method for migrating 4D seismic data, the method comprising:
- receiving a first data set and a second data set that are vintages of the 4D seismic data;
- migrating the first data set using an initial velocity model to obtain a first migrated data set;
- and
- determining a modified velocity model that minimizes an objective function measuring differences between the first migrated data set and the second data set migrated using the modified velocity model.
