Multi-tier camera rig for stereoscopic image capture

A camera rig, comprising:

• a first tier of images sensors including a first plurality of image sensors disposed within a first plane, the first plurality of image sensors being configured so that a field of view of at least each of three adjacent image sensors from the first plurality of image sensors overlaps;
• and
• a second tier of image sensors including a second plurality of image sensors disposed within a second plane, the second plurality of image sensors each having an aspect ratio orientation different from an aspect ratio orientation of each of the first plurality of image sensors,
• the first plurality of image sensors defining a circular shape having a radius such that the field of view of each of at least three adjacent image sensors from the first plurality of image sensors overlaps.

A camera rig, comprising:

• a camera housing including:
• a lower circular perimeter, and
• an upper multi-faced cap, the lower circular perimeter disposed below the multi-faced cap;
• a first plurality of image sensors arranged in a circular shape and disposed along the lower circular perimeter of the camera housing such that each of the first plurality of image sensors have an outward projection normal to the lower circular perimeter;
• and
• a second plurality of image sensors each being disposed on a face of the upper multi-faced cap such that each of the second plurality of image sensors has an outward projection non-parallel to a normal of the lower circular perimeter,
• the circular shape of the first plurality of image sensors having a radius such that the field of view of each of at least three adjacent image sensors from the first plurality of image sensors overlaps.
