Abstract
A multicore fiber is provided that includes a plurality of elliptical cores spaced apart from one another. Each of the plurality of elliptical cores has an elliptical shape. The multicore fiber also includes a cladding surrounding the plurality of elliptical cores.
Claims20
A multicore fiber comprising:
- a plurality of elliptical cores spaced apart from one another, each of the plurality of elliptical cores having an elliptical shape;
- and
- a cladding surrounding the plurality of elliptical cores.
A method of forming a multicore fiber having elliptical cores, the method comprising the steps of:
- forming a preform having a plurality of elliptical core canes and cladding surrounding the core canes;
- inserting the preform in a draw furnace;
- and
- drawing a multicore fiber from the preform to achieve a multicore fiber having a plurality of elliptical cores.
