Methods and systems for managing provisioning requests in a networked storage environment

A non-transitory, machine readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions for performing a method, comprising machine executable code which when executed by at least one machine, causes the machine to:

• assign by a processor executable provisioning engine a plurality of performance parameters in response to a provisioning request to provision a workload for storing data in a networked storage environment, where the plurality of parameters define a number of input/output (I/O) operations per second (IOPS) and a latency for processing I/O requests associated with the workload;
• identify by the provisioning engine a demand for a plurality of resources of the networked storage environment for meeting the provisioning request, where the demand is identified by retrieving historical demand data for a similar workload and then transforming the retrieved historical demand data by any demand data that is associated with a transient event;
• retrieve by the provisioning engine historical available performance capacity of the plurality of resources resource, where the historical available performance capacity of the plurality of resources is determined by using a relationship between latency and optimum utilization of the plurality of resources, where the optimum utilization is an indicator of resource utilization beyond which throughput gains are smaller than increase in latency;
• transform by the provisioning engine the historical available performance capacity by filtering any historical performance capacity data related to any transient event;
• and
• identify at least a resource pair that can meet the identified demand based on the transformed historical performance capacity data.

A system comprising:

• a memory containing machine readable medium comprising machine executable code having stored thereon instructions;
• and a processor module coupled to the memory, the processor module configured to execute the machine executable code for a provisioning engine to:
• assign a plurality of performance parameters in response to a provisioning request to provision a workload for storing data in a networked storage environment, where the plurality of parameters define a number of input/output (I/O) operations per second (IOPS) and a latency for processing I/O requests associated with the workload;
• identify a demand for a plurality of resources of the networked storage environment for meeting the provisioning request, where the demand is identified by retrieving historical demand data for a similar workload and then transforming the retrieved historical demand data by any demand data that is associated with a transient event;
• retrieve historical available performance capacity of the plurality of resources resource, where the historical available performance capacity of the plurality of resources is determined by using a relationship between latency and optimum utilization of the plurality of resources, where the optimum utilization is an indicator of resource utilization beyond which throughput gains are smaller than increase in latency;
• transform the historical available performance capacity by filtering any historical performance capacity data related to any transient event;
• and
• identify at least a resource pair that can meet the identified demand based on the transformed historical performance capacity data.
