Abstract
Systems and Methods for reducing distortion due to bursts of upstream transmission in an HFC CATV network. In some preferred systems, the functionality of an Optical Network Unit (ONU) may occur within a node or amplifier along a direction upstream from a subscriber's home.
Claims22
A system comprising:
- a head end delivering CATV content to at least one subscriber;
- and
- an amplification module interposed between the head end and the first ONU, the amplification module comprising an ONU.
An amplification module comprising:
- an ONU and diplexer;
- and
- a forward amplifier and a reverse amplifier, each interposed between the ONU and the diplexer.
The system of claim 53 where the turn on time is the slowest allowed by the RFoG standard.
A method of upgrading a HFC network delivering CATV content from a head end to a plurality of subscribers, each of the plurality of subscribers having an associated subscriber ONU proximate the respective subscribers' premises, the HFC network having a node that propagates upstream and downstream signals between the head end and the plurality of subscribers, and having a plurality of first amplifiers between the node and the respective subscriber ONUS, each of the plurality of first amplifiers having a first diplex filter and a second diplex filter, a forward amplifier between the first diplex filter and the second diplex filter, and a reverse amplifier between the first diplex filter and the second diplex filter, the method comprising the step of replacing at least one first amplifier with a second amplifier, the second amplifier comprising a network ONU, a filter, and a forward amplifier and reverse amplifier each positioned between the network ONU and the diplex filter.
