Abstract
A new access networking framework is provided for supporting small cell deployments based on the sharing of network resources. A smart gateway framework flexibly accommodates eNB connections and dynamically assigns uplink transmission resources to the eNBs. Novel techniques are also introduced for sharing the small cell infrastructures among multiple operators through virtualization and SDN based reconfiguration.
Claims20
A method for optimizing resource allocation in a network, the method comprising:
- allocating a smart gateway framework an uplink transmission bitrate toward an operator;
- scheduling shares of the uplink transmission bitrate among a plurality of enhanced Node Bs connected to the smart gateway framework in an equal share allocation;
- collecting one or more uplink requests from the plurality of enhanced Node Bs;
- and
- adaptively allocating one or more grants of the uplink transmission bitrate to each of the plurality of enhanced Node Bs based on the one or more uplink requests.
A system for optimizing resource allocation in a network, the system comprising:
- an operator for the network;
- a plurality of plurality of enhanced Node Bs generating one or more uplink requests to transmit to the operator over a cycle of duration;
- and
- a smart gateway framework allocated an uplink transmission bitrate toward the operator, the smart gateway framework collecting the one or more uplink requests and adaptively allocating one or more grants of the uplink transmission bitrate to each of the plurality of enhanced Node Bs based on an equal share allocation and the one or more uplink requests.
A method for optimizing resource allocation in a network with a plurality of operators, the method comprising:
- obtaining a request vector of a plurality of aggregated smoothed uplink transmission bitrate requests for an operator of the plurality of operators from a smart gateway framework;
- generating a request matrix including the request vector using a software defined network orchestrator;
- generating an operator constraint from a set of one or more constraints on traffic for the operator;
- assigning uplink transmission grants to a plurality of enhanced Node Bs connected to the smart gateway framework using an operator specific grant size limit;
- and
- responding to the request vector with a grant vector satisfying the operator constraint and corresponding to the operator specific grant size limit.
