Communication device and a method for operating a communication device

A communication device configured to decrease the frequency of tracking area update (TAU) procedures for a first subscriber identity module (SIM) in long term evolution (LTE) idle mode on a network, comprising:

• two SIMS;
• a radio frequency unit comprising a single transmitter and a plurality of receivers;
• and
• a baseband modem configured to:
• assign a frequency of a cell that the first SIM is camped on as a highest priority;
• and
• remain on the frequency until:
• a cell selection reception level value of the cell is less than a first predetermined threshold value, or
• a cell selection quality value of the cell is less than a second predetermined threshold value.

A method for a communication device with at least one subscriber identity module (SIM) to suppress a cell reselection on a first SIM, comprising:

• identifying a frequency of a cell on which the first SIM is camped on;
• assigning the frequency a highest priority;
• and
• remaining on the frequency until:
• a cell selection reception level value of the cell is less than a first predetermined threshold value, or
• a cell selection quality value of the cell is less than a second predetermined threshold value.
