System and switch assembly thereof with fault protection and associated method

A switch assembly, comprising:

• a switch module comprising a plurality of power switch devices connected in parallel;
• a plurality of isolation circuits each connected in series to a gate terminal of at least one corresponding power switch device of the plurality of power switch devices, each isolation circuit comprising a capacitor or a controllable switch;
• a detection unit for detecting a fault in at least one of the power switch devices;
• and
• a drive unit coupled to the switch module via the plurality of isolation circuits for driving the power switch devices, and when the fault is detected, the drive unit for turning on the power switch devices parallel connected to the at least one of faulty power switch devices.

A method, comprising:

• providing a plurality of switch modules connected in series and each comprising a plurality of power switch devices connected in parallel;
• providing a plurality of isolation circuits each connected in series to a gate terminal of at least one corresponding power switch device of the plurality of power switch devices, each isolation circuit comprising a capacitor or a controllable switch;
• receiving a faulty signal when at least one of the power switch device is faulty;
• and
• turning on the faulty switch module having the faulty power switch device in response to the faulty signal.
