Abstract
An apparatus that includes a substrate and a first plurality of circuit components mounted on the substrate, which is associated with a protected area. The apparatus includes a connector formed on the substrate to at least partially circumscribe the protected area and a second plurality of circuit components mounted on the substrate to at least partially circumscribe the connector to form a security barrier to physically inhibit a penetration attack into the protected area.
Claims15
An apparatus comprising:
- a substrate;
- a first plurality of circuit components mounted on the substrate and being associated with a protected area;
- an electrical connector formed on the substrate to at least partially circumscribe the protected area;
- and
- a second plurality of circuit components mounted on the substrate to at least partially circumscribe the connector to form a security barrier to physically inhibit a penetration attack into the protected area.

A method comprising:
- coupling together substrates comprising at least one penetration detection boundary to protect at least one integrated circuit from a penetration attack along a path extending through at least one of the substrates, the coupling comprising disposing a connector between the substrates;
- and
- mounting circuit components on at least one of the substrates to form a physical barrier to inhibit a penetration attack along a path extending between the substrates and into the connector.
An apparatus comprising:
- a first substrate comprising at least one penetration detection layer to detect a penetration attack through the first substrate;
- a protected integrated circuit mounted on the first substrate;
- a second substrate comprising at least one penetration detection layer to detect a penetration attack through the second substrate;
- a connector disposed between the first and second substrates and circumscribing the protected integrated circuit, the connector to electrically couple the penetration detection layers of the first and second substrates together;
- and
- circuit components mounted on the first substrate to circumscribe the connector to form a physical barrier to inhibit a penetration attack through the connector.
