System and method for capturing dose information

A device for capturing delivered dose information, comprising:

• a medication delivery device;
• a dose information capture device adapted to be attached to the medication delivery device, wherein the dose information capture device comprises a sensor, and the sensor attaches to the medication delivery device on a dose delivery mechanism of the medication delivery device;
• a processor that receives sensor signals from the sensor;
• and
• a memory comprising instructions adapted to be executed by the processor for determining a dose delivered based on signals received from the sensor.

A system for capturing delivered dose information, comprising:

• a medicament vial having a medicament volume sensor attached to a sidewall of the medicament vial;
• a processor;
• and
• a memory comprising instructions adapted to control the processor to receive medicament volume measurements from the medicament volume sensor, and to determine a difference in volume prior to a dose delivery and after the dose delivery.

A system for determining doses of medicament delivered to a patient comprising:

• a syringe having a target element movable together with a syringe plunger;
• a dose information capture device adapted to be attached to the syringe, the dose information capture device comprising a magnetic sensor arranged to sense a position of the target element when the dose information capture device is attached to the syringe;
• a processor;
• and
• a memory comprising instructions adapted to control the processor to determine a dose delivered based on at least one position determination of the plunger.

An informatically enabled dosing system for improved treatment of diseases comprising:

• an insulin dose input element;
• an oral medication input element;
• a blood glucose level input element;
• and
• a carbohydrate input element;
• wherein the system further comprises a data hub adapted to receive data from each of the input elements to perform calculations based on the data received from the input elements, and to provide feedback to a user based on said performed calculations.

An informatics enabled pen case adapted to receive an insulin pen comprising;

• a syringe receiving cavity;
• a clamping system adjacent to the syringe receiving cavity and adapted to clamp onto a plunger of the syringe;
• an actuator adapted to move the clamping system and plunger when the clamping system is clamped onto the plunger;
• a processor adapted to receive dose commands from the transceiver and to send control information to a controller;
• wherein the controller is adapted to operate the actuator and the clamping system, and
• a transceiver adapted to receive a dose command from a user interface;
• wherein the transceiver transmits a received dose command to the processor;
• and
• wherein the processor receives the dose command, and sends control information corresponding to the dose command to the controller;
• wherein the controller receives the control information and controls the clamping system and actuator to clamp the plunger of the syringe and move the plunger to draw a dose corresponding to the dose command.

An informatically enabled medicine delivery device and device case, comprising:

• a medicine delivery device adapted to receive a removable reservoir filled with medicine, the reservoir comprising a plunger adapted to move axially within the reservoir to cause medicine to exit the reservoir, the plunger comprising a target element attached to the plunger and moving axially with the plunger;
• and
• a device case comprising a cavity corresponding to the medicine delivery device and shaped to receive the medicine delivery device in a predetermined location and a target element sensor adapted to sense the location of the target element;
• the device case further comprising a processor adapted to receive a signal from the target element sensor, a real time dock, a memory for storing target element locations sensed by the target element sensor, and a wireless transceiver;
• the processor adapted to determine a dose and a time of dose based on target element sensor signals and the real time clock and to send the determined dose and time of dose to the wireless transceiver;
• and
• the wireless transceiver adapted to transmit the determined dose and time of dose to a remote device.

An informatically enabled medicine delivery device comprising:

• a medicine delivery device adapted to receive a removable reservoir filled with medicine, the reservoir comprising a plunger adapted to move axially within the reservoir to cause medicine to exit the reservoir, the plunger comprising a target element attached to the plunger and moving axially with the plunger;
• and
• a device cap adapted to receive the medicine delivery device and enclose a delivery end of the medicine delivery device;
• the device cap comprising a target element sensor adapted to sense the location of the target element;
• the device cap further comprising a processor adapted to receive a signal from the target element sensor, a real time dock, a memory for storing target element locations sensed by the target element sensor, and a wireless transceiver;
• the processor adapted to determine a dose and a time of dose based on target element sensor signals and the real time clock and to send the determined dose and time of dose to the wireless transceiver;
• and
• the wireless transceiver adapted to transmit the determined dose and time of dose to a remote device.
