Migrating lock data within a distributed file system

A system comprising:

• a memory;
• and
• a processing device operatively coupled to the memory, the processing device to:
• initiate, by a processing device, a transfer of locking data from a first node of a distributed file system to a second node of the distributed file system, wherein the locking data is associated with a file system object and comprises a connection identifier indicating a connection between a client requesting a lock and the first node;
• construct, by the processing device, a modified connection identifier that indicates a connection between the client and the second node;
• and
• update, by the processing device, the second node to include the locking data with the modified connection identifier.

A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that cause a processing device to:

• initiate a transfer of locking data from the first node to the second node of the distributed file system, wherein the locking data is for the file system object and indicates there is a blocked lock request from a client;
• retrieve a request path for the blocked lock request, the request path identifying the first node and one or more other nodes of the distributed file system that transmitted the blocked lock request;
• modify the request path to replace identification information for the first node with identification information for the second node;
• and
• update the second node to include the locking data with the modified request path.
