Automated fracture planning methods for multi-well fields

A dynamic fracturing method, comprising:

• receiving a desired fracture length and desired fracture spacing information from an input source;
• electronically accessing formation data pertaining to a target formation from one or more databases;
• using a computer processor to dynamically generate a zippered fracturing plan for multiple boreholes in said target formation based on the desired fracture length and desired fracture spacing information;
• using the computer processor to monitor for modifications to the desired fracture length, desired fracture spacing information, and formation data;
• using the computer processor to dynamically update the zippered fracturing plan based on said modifications;
• and
• fracturing the target formation along the multiple boreholes in accordance with the updated zippered fracturing plan.

A computer-readable medium storing software code which, when executed, causes a processor to:

• generate a first list of boreholes in a target formation, at least some boreholes in the first list associated with one or more fractures;
• generate a second list of boreholes in a target formation, at least some boreholes in the second list associated with no fractures;
• for a selected fractured borehole in the first list, identify a corresponding non-fractured borehole in the second list that is adjacent to the selected fractured borehole in the target formation;
• and
• determine a zippered fracturing plan for the identified non-fractured borehole in accordance with input parameters specifying desired fracture length and spacing;
• and
• wherein the borehole is fractured based on the plan.
