Removable Catch Basin Filter Insert and Lifting Apparatus

A removable catch basin filter insert insertable into a catch basin, the removable catch basin filter insert comprising:

• a frame body having one or more frame elements, wherein the frame body is reinforced or supported by the one or more frame elements;
• a lifting frame having one or more lifting points that allows the removable catch basin filter to be lifted from the catch basin;
• a cover attached to the removable catch basin filter insert by a first hinge, wherein the first hinge is configured to allow the cover to be in an open position or a closed position;
• and
• a trap door attached to the frame body by a second hinge, wherein the second hinge is configured to allow the trap door to be in an open position or a close position, and
• wherein the frame body forms a filter basket, the filter basket being porous so as to allow stormwater to flow out of the filter basket while allowing pollutants from the stormwater to be captured in the filter basket.

A method for cleaning a removable catch basin filter insert from a catch basin using a vehicle, the method comprising:

• positioning a lifting apparatus of the vehicle relative to at least one lifting point of the removable catch basin filter insert;
• lifting, using the lifting apparatus, the removable catch basin filter insert out of the catch basin and moving the removable catch basin filter insert to an emptying position;
• emptying contents of the removable catch basin filter insert into a receptacle of the vehicle from the emptying position;
• and
• placing the removable catch basin filter insert into the catch basin using the lifting apparatus.

A system for filtering pollutants, the system comprising:

• a catch basin for receiving stormwater;
• and
• a removable catch basin filter insert that is insertable into the catch basin, wherein the removable catch basin filter insert includes:
• a frame body having one or more frame elements, wherein the frame body is reinforced or supported by the one or more frame elements;
• a porous cover with at least one lifting point, wherein the frame body and porous cover are attached;
• a trap door attached to the frame body by a hinge, wherein the hinge is configured to allow the trap door to be in an open position or a closed position,
• an overflow situated below the porous cover and above a filter basket, wherein the surface area of the overflow is approximately equal to or greater than the open area in the porous cover;
• and
• wherein the frame body forms a filter basket and overflow, the filter basket being porous so as to allow the stormwater to flow out of the filter basket while allowing pollutants from the stormwater to be captured in the filter basket.
