Abstract
Mesoporous organosilica sorbents are effective to remove contaminants (such as glycerol or detergent) from biodiesel. Contacting biodiesel with various a mesoporous organosilica sorbents comprising phenyl and sulfonate moieties resulted in the contaminants being absorbed by the sorbent and thus removed from the biodiesel.
Claims6
A method of removing a contaminant from biodiesel, comprising:
- contacting a mesoporous organosilica sorbent comprising phenyl and sulfonate moieties with a biodiesel containing a contaminant;
- then
- separating the biodiesel from the sorbent, whereby a fraction of the contaminant in the biodiesel is absorbed by the sorbent and thus removed from the biodiesel.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
