Abstract
The present invention provides a stable topical pharmaceutical composition of halobetasol propionate. The present invention discloses an impurity of compound of Formula II and its process of preparation. It also relates to a method of evaluating stability of a topical pharmaceutical composition of halobetasol propionate.

A process for the preparation of a compound of Formula II, comprising reacting halobetasol propionate with a non-aqueous solvent, wherein the Formula II is represented as

A stable topical pharmaceutical composition of halobetasol comprising halobetasol propionate and a compound of Formula II, wherein the content of a compound of Formula II is not more than 2.0% w/w based on the total weight of the composition, and wherein the Formula II is represented as

A stable topical pharmaceutical composition of halobetasol comprising halobetasol propionate, a non-aqueous solvent, and a compound of Formula II, wherein the content of a compound of Formula II is not more than 2.0% w/w based on the total weight of the composition, and wherein the Formula II is represented as
