The present disclosure relates to compositions that protect the skin and hair from extreme heat (external thermal flux). The compositions include: (a) laponite; (b) one or more UV filters; (c) one or more emulsifiers; and (d) water. The compositions are useful in cosmetic, industrial, and military technologies. For instance, the compositions are useful in methods for protecting skin from intense external thermal flux (e.g., fires and explosives). When applied to the hair, the compositions are useful in methods for protecting the hair from heat damage caused by, for example, hair dryers, curling irons, straightening irons, etc.
1-20. (canceled)
A heat-protective composition comprising:
The heat-protective composition of claim 9, wherein the nonionic emulsifier is a combination of glyceryl stearate and PEG-100 stearate.
The heat-protective composition of 21, wherein the amount of the emulsifier(s) is about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. %, based on the total weight of the heat-protective composition.
The heat-protective composition of claim 1, further comprising:
A method for protecting hair from damage caused by heat comprising applying a heat-protective composition of claim 1 to the hair.
