Abstract
A surgical instrument, comprising a handle and an end effector configured to perform a tissue-treating function. The end effector comprises a distal head comprising a rotatable jaw and an end effector frame comprising a longitudinal end effector axis. The surgical instrument further comprises means for rotating the distal head relative to the end effector frame, a display, and means for adjusting the contents of the display in relation to the rotation of the distal head.
Claims23
A surgical instrument, comprising:
- a handle;
- a shaft comprising a longitudinal shaft axis;
- an end effector configured to perform a tissue-treating function, wherein said end effector comprises:
- an end effector frame comprising a longitudinal end effector axis;
- and
- a jaw rotatably coupled to said end effector frame;
- an actuator configured to actuate said tissue-treating function;
- a rotation joint rotatably connecting said end effector to said shaft;
- an electric motor operably coupled to said end effector frame, wherein said electric motor is configured to rotate said end effector about said longitudinal end effector axis between a first end effector orientation and a second end effector orientation;
- a processor configured to evaluate the orientation of said end effector;
- and
- a display in communication with said processor, wherein said display is configured to:
- display information regarding said tissue-treating function in a first display orientation when said end effector is in said first orientation;
- and
- display information regarding said tissue-treating function in a second display orientation when said end effector is in said second orientation.
A surgical instrument, comprising:
- a handle;
- a shaft comprising a longitudinal shaft axis;
- an end effector configured to perform a tissue-treating function, wherein said end effector comprises:
- a distal head comprising a rotatable jaw;
- an end effector frame comprising a longitudinal end effector axis;
- and
- an actuator configured to actuate said tissue-treating function;
- a rotation joint rotatably connecting said distal head to said end effector;
- an electric motor operably coupled to said distal head, wherein said electric motor is configured to rotate said distal head about said longitudinal end effector axis between a first distal head orientation and a second distal head orientation;
- a processor configured to evaluate the orientation of said distal head;
- and
- a display in communication with said processor, wherein said display is configured to:
- display information regarding said tissue-treating function in a first display arrangement when said distal head is in said first orientation;
- and
- display information regarding said tissue-treating function in a second display arrangement when said distal head is in said second orientation.
A surgical instrument, comprising:
- a handle;
- an end effector configured to perform a tissue-treating function, wherein said end effector comprises:
- a distal head comprising a rotatable jaw;
- and
- an end effector frame comprising a longitudinal end effector axis;
- means for rotating said distal head relative to said end effector frame;
- a display;
- and
- means for adjusting the contents of said display in relation to the rotation of said distal head.
