Abstract
A surgical apparatus is provided including an endoscope, a camera, a light source, and a structured light pattern source. The endoscope includes an elongate body having a plurality of segments manipulatable relative to one another. The camera, light source, and structured light pattern source cooperate to determine the topography of a surface within a patient. A method of performing surgery is also provided.
Claims20
A surgical apparatus comprising:
- an endoscope including an elongate body, the elongate body including a plurality of segments manipulatable relative to one another;
- a camera;
- a light source;
- and
- a structured light pattern source,
- wherein the camera, the light source, and the structured light pattern source cooperate to determine the topography of a surface within a patient.
3 more elements
A method of performing surgery, comprising:
- storing instructions on a memory associated with a computer;
- advancing an endoscope within a body cavity of a patient;
- manipulating a distal segment of a plurality of segments defined by the endoscope towards a target tissue;
- projecting a structured light pattern from a structured light pattern source coupled to the distal segment;
- detecting portions of the structured light pattern that is reflected off of the target tissue using a camera coupled to the distal segment;
- and
- executing the instructions to generate a three dimensional map of the target tissue using data obtained by the camera.
