A Request Router (RR) including a Traffic Monitor (TM) function, for monitoring a Content Delivery Network (CDN), said CDN effecting requests routing toward delivery nodes (DNs) without using a load balancer and achieving high availability, comprising processing circuitry and a memory, said memory containing instructions executable by said processing circuitry whereby said RR is operative to:
- iteratively, for each delivery node:
- send a monitoring request to the delivery node;
- if a response indicative of success of the monitoring request is received from the delivery node before the end of a first time interval, set a status of the delivery node to indicate success;
- if a response indicative of failure of the monitoring request is received from the delivery node before the end of the first time interval, set the status of the delivery node to indicate failure;
- if no response to the monitoring request is received from the delivery node before the end of the first time interval, set the status of the delivery node to indicate indetermination;
- and
- iteratively, at a second time interval:
- take a snapshot of the statuses of the delivery nodes and produce a list of DNs with their statuses.
