Abstract
A data reader may have a magnetoresistive stack consisting of at least magnetically free and magnetically fixed structures. The magnetically fixed structure can be set to a first magnetization direction by a first pinning structure separated from an air bearing surface by a front shield portion of a magnetic shield. The front shield portion may be set to a different second magnetization direction by a second pinning structure.

An apparatus comprising a magnetoresistive stack having a reference magnetization set by a pinning structure separated from an air bearing surface (ABS) by a front shield portion of a magnetic shield, the front shield portion set to a shield magnetization by a stabilizing structure, the shield and reference magnetizations being orthogonal, the stabilizing structure having a varying stripe height as measured perpendicular to the ABS.
An apparatus comprising a magnetoresistive stack having a reference magnetization set by a pinning structure separated from an air bearing surface (ABS) by a front shield portion of a magnetic shield, the front shield portion set to a shield magnetization by a stabilizing structure, the shield and reference magnetizations being orthogonal, the stabilizing structure having a varying stripe height as measured perpendicular to the ABS, the stabilizing structure separated from a magnetic shield core and from the pinning structure by a non-magnetic buffer layer.
A data reader comprising a magnetoresistive stack having a reference magnetization set by a pinning structure separated from an air bearing surface (ABS) by a front shield portion of a magnetic shield, the front shield portion set to a shield magnetization by a stabilizing structure, the shield and reference magnetizations being orthogonal, the stabilizing structure having a varying stripe height as measured perpendicular to the ABS, the magnetoresistive stack and the front shield portion having different widths, each width measured parallel to the ABS.
