Abstract
The usefulness of content (target content), such as advertisements, may be increased by determining additional content and providing such additional content in association with the content. The target content may be text, a Web page, a URL, a search query, etc. The additional content might be related suggested queries (e.g. “Try a search for ______”), news articles (or excerpts or summaries thereof), reviews (or excerpts or summaries thereof), advertisements, user group messages, etc.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- generating, in response to a request for a digital content item and with a computer system comprising at least one computer on a network, additional content that is based on a source other than a source of the digital content item, the additional content being generated using data about a resource, data received from a source other than a source of the resource, and data received from the source other than the source of the digital content item;
- encapsulating the additional content within the digital content item;
- and
- serving, with the computer system, the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, to induce display of the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, in the resource, on a user device.
A system, comprising:
- a content assembler engine configured to generate, in response to a request for a digital content item over a network, additional content that is based on a source other than a source of the digital content item, the additional content being generated using data about a resource, data received from a source other than a source of the resource, and data received from the source other than the source of the digital content item;
- a rendering engine configured to encapsulate the additional content within the digital content item;
- and
- a content server configured to serve the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, to induce display of the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, in the resource, on a user device.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that are executable by one or more processors configured to perform operations comprising:
- generating, in response to a request for a digital content item and with a computer system comprising at least one computer on a network, additional content that is based on a source other than a source of the digital content item, the additional content being generated using data about a resource, data received from a source other than a source of the resource, and data received from the source other than the source of the digital content item;
- encapsulating the additional content within the digital content item;
- and
- serving, with the computer system, the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, to induce display of the digital content item that encapsulates the additional content, in the resource, on a user device.
