Abstract
According to the present invention, an implantable device comprising an electrode for carrying an electric signal to or from a biological cell or tissue provided. The electrode material is chosen to exhibit desirable properties in terms of electrical conductivity, biocompatibility and bio-fouling. The invention further provides implantable devices comprising such implantable electrodes.
Claims10
An implantable device comprising:
- at least one electrode for carrying an electrical signal, the electrode comprising:
- at least one portion for directly contacting a biological cell or tissue;
- wherein the portion is made of Indium nitride, InN, so that the portion is electrically conductive or semiconductive, and so that cell adhesion on the portion is inhibited.
A method for carrying an electric signal and for inhibiting cell adhesion on an electrode, the method comprising:
- using Indium nitride, InN, as an implantable electrode material for contacting a biological cell or tissue, thereby carrying the electric signal and for inhibiting cell adhesion on the electrode.
