System, apparatus and method for multi-owner transfer of ownership of a device

At least one computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that when executed enable a device to:

• receive, in the device, a first message to request transfer of ownership of the device from a current owner to a new owner, the device having a storage to store a first title including a device identifier for the device and an owner identifier for the current owner, the storage to further store a first root authorization key associated with the current owner;
• send a second message from the device to the new owner, the second message including a hash value of the first title;
• and
• receive a third message, in the device, the third message including a second ownership record for the device, the second ownership record generated by the new owner and including a new owner identifier, and concatenate the second ownership record to the first title, to enable ownership of the device to be transferred to the new owner.

A method comprising:

• receiving, in a device, a request to transfer of ownership of the device from a seller to a buyer, the device having a storage to store a title including a device identifier for the device and an owner identifier for the seller, the storage to further store a first root authorization key associated with the seller;
• generating and sending a hash value of the title from the device to a second device associated with the buyer;
• and
• receiving, in the device, an ownership record for the ownership transfer from the seller to the buyer, the ownership record including a new owner identifier;
• endorsing, in the device, the ownership record with a signature of the seller;
• and
• appending, in the device, the endorsed ownership record to the title, to reflect the ownership transfer from the seller to the buyer, and storing the appended title in a secure storage of the device.
