Abstract
The present invention features methods for preventing and treating three related diseases, diet-induced obesity, metabolic syndrome, and atherosclerosis, alone or in combination by inhibiting Acyl-CoA: Cholesterol Acyltransferase 1 (ACATI) activity or expression in myeloid cells.
Claims14
A method for preventing or treating diet-induced obesity in a subject comprising contacting myeloid cells of a subject with a Acyl-CoA:Cholesterol Acyltransferase 1-selective inhibitor thereby preventing or treating diet-induced obesity in the subject.
A method for preventing or treating metabolic syndrome in a subject comprising contacting myeloid cells of a subject with a Acyl-CoA:Cholesterol Acyltransferase 1-selective inhibitor thereby preventing or treating metabolic syndrome in the subject.
A method for reducing the size of atherosclerotic lesions in aortic blood vessels of a subject comprising contacting myeloid cells of a subject with a Acyl-CoA:Cholesterol Acyltransferase 1-selective inhibitor thereby reducing the size of atherosclerotic lesion area in aortic blood vessels of the subject.
