- for preventing, slowing, delaying or treating diseases or conditions attributed to an abnormal accumulation of liver fat, or
- for maintaining and/or improving the insulin sensitivity and/or for treating or preventing hyperinsulinemia and/or insulin resistance;
- in a patient in need thereof, wherein the patient has one or more variations in one or more of the genes selected from TCF7L2 and GLP1R or in a patient who is of respective wild-type genotype,
- said method comprising
- testing whether the patient has one or more variations in one or more of the genes selected from TCF7L2 and GLP1R, and
- administering a DPP-4 inhibitor selected from linagliptin, sitagliptin, vildagliptin, alogliptin, saxagliptin, teneligliptin and dutogliptin, and, optionally, a second antidiabetic agent selected from biguanides, thiazolidindiones, sulfonylureas, glinides, inhibitors of alpha-glucosidase, GLP-1 or GLP-1 analogues, and insulin or insulin analogues, and, optionally, a third antidiabetic agent selected from biguanides, thiazolidindiones, sulfonylureas, glinides, inhibitors of alpha-glucosidase, GLP-1 or GLP-1 analogues, and insulin or insulin analogues, to the patient, optionally in combination, including in alternation.
